Correction of Nipple Inversion

Inverted nipples point inwards towards the breast rather than outwards. Although a common condition, many people with nipple inversion feel embarrassed and unconfident in day to day life. If you are feeling unhappy with your body due to inverted nipples, consider correcting them with a simple surgical procedure at Harley Street Breast Clinic.

Benefits of correcting an inverted breast

  • Increased body confidence
  • Wear tight-fitting clothes without worry
  • Improved quality of life
  • Change in public freely

Am I a suitable candidate?

Breast surgery is only performed on patients over the age of 18 when the breasts have fully developed. Your appointment with specialist consultant breast surgeon in London, Mr. D.B. Ghosh, will determine your suitability for surgery. You must be in good health and have realistic goals for surgery.

What does the procedure involve?

Nipple surgery is performed under local anaesthetic with the option of general anesthesia also available. The surgery will take under an hour to complete at our breast clinic on Harley Street.

To begin, your skilled breast surgeon in London will make an incision around your nipple to separate it from the surrounding tissue. The nipple will then be repositioned and stitched up, so that it protrudes outwards naturally on the breast.

Are there any risks?

Patients tend to retain nipple sensation following surgery. Your experienced breast surgeon on Harley Street will discuss the possible risks with you at your consultation.

Will I be able to breastfeed afterwards?

Your ability to breastfeed may be affected post-surgery if you have severely inverted nipples. It also depends on the surgical technique used. At your consultation, you and Mr. D.B. Ghosh will discuss your concerns and together determine the best way forward for you.

How much scarring will there be?

The extent of the scarring differs depending on the skin and surgical technique used. At your consultation, your surgeon will explain what your scarring will look like.

How long does recovery take?

Full recovery from breast surgery in London takes at least six weeks on average. You can expect to feel mild discomfort, along with minor bleeding, swelling, and bruising in the area. Paracetamol can be taken to relieve pain. You will be ready to return to work within one to two days.

What about aftercare?

Following breast surgery on Harley Street, we’ll provide you with comprehensive advice regarding aftercare, as well as an emergency 24/7 phone number for your local nursing team.

Dressings should be changed at the end of the first week, either by yourself at home or by us at the clinic. Avoid strenuous activities which may cause chafing and discomfort.
