Is a breast lift right for you?
Breast lifts are suitable for women over 18 once their breasts have fully developed. This procedure is effective for small, sagging breasts and can also lift larger breasts, though results may not be as long-term. (A breast reduction lift may be an option if you desire both uplift and reduction). Book a consultation with Mr Ghosh, communicate your goals openly, and he’ll carefully assess your suitability for breast lift surgery.
What happens during the breast lift procedure?
Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) typically takes around two hours. Under general anaesthesia, Mr Ghosh will make incisions around the areola and from the areola down to the natural fold of the breast. He will remove excess skin and reposition and tighten the breast. The areola and nipple will also be repositioned to complement the breasts. (If you’re seeking fuller breasts, a breast augmentation adds half an hour to the procedure.)
After breast lift surgery, you’ll spend at least one night in the hospital, wearing a non-wired post-surgical bra for comfort and support. We’ll also prescribe pain relief medication.
Your recovery journey after breast lift surgery
Recovery typically takes five to six weeks after breast lift surgery. A post-surgical bra should be worn day and night for six to twelve weeks post-surgery, only removed for showering and after your stitches are removed a week later. Bruising, swelling, and soreness may last one to two weeks, requiring time off work and home rest. Avoid exercise for seven to ten days, with gentle walking resuming after three to four weeks. Strenuous exercise can be reintroduced after six weeks.
What about aftercare? We provide comprehensive aftercare advice and a 24/7 emergency phone number for your local nursing team.
What will scarring look like? Mr Ghosh will discuss incision placements before your breast lift surgery. The number of incisions depends on the degree of breast sagging. Expect a scar around the nipple, which will fade over time.
How much does breast lift surgery cost?
Breast lift surgery UK costs vary for every patient. The specific cost for your surgery will be discussed during your consultation with Mr D B Ghosh.

Important advice:
If you’re considering breast lift surgery, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon. Some surgeons may offer ‘free consultations’ but be aware that these would tend to offer limited general advice in what is a highly specialised area of surgery. As one of the leading breast surgeons in the UK, Mr Ghosh will conduct a thorough examination, discuss the available options, and help you choose the most appropriate procedures to achieve your desired outcome. Open communication between you and Mr Ghosh is essential to ensure realistic expectations and a positive surgical experience.
Patient testimonial seen for breast uplift surgery (mastopexy):
“I received surgery from Mr Ghosh for the removal of breast implants and uplift and I couldn’t be happier with the results! Mr Ghosh explained everything to me pre and post-surgery and he and his team were extremely professional through the process.” August 2022 (source: hcahealthcare.co.uk)
