Whether your breasts are naturally small or asymmetrical or you have experienced changes post-weight loss or pregnancy, a breast augmentation can enhance your size, firmness, and overall shape. Our expert, Mr D B Ghosh, a renowned breast surgeon based at The London Clinic, the Harley Street Clinic, and The Royal Free London Breast Unit, specialises in providing breast augmentation to help you achieve the fuller breasts you desire.
Benefits of breast augmentation surgery:
- Boosted self-esteem
- Fuller, symmetrical breasts
- Enhanced curvier figure
- Confidence to wear your wardrobe with pride.
Are you a suitable candidate?
We typically recommend breast enlargement surgery (sometimes known as ‘boob augmentation’) for women over 18, whose breasts have fully developed. Other factors such as health, smoking, and weight are also a consideration. Please book an appointment with us to discuss your requirements and suitability. During your consultation, Mr Ghosh will work with you to create the perfect breast augmentation treatment plan.
What happens during the breast augmentation procedure?
- The procedure: lasting one to two hours under general anaesthetic, involves an incision to create a space for the breast implant. Incisions can be made in various locations, such as under the breast, around the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit. The choice of incision location depends on factors like the type of implant and the patient’s anatomy. Mr Ghosh will discuss incision locations and potential scarring during your consultation.
- Saline vs. silicone implants: Breast implants are available in saline and silicone options, both safe and providing beautiful results. Saline implants are filled with salt water, while silicone implants contain a thick, sticky gel. Silicone is generally preferred for its natural results. During consultations, Mr Ghosh will talk you through the pros and cons of silicone and saline implants, and the suitability of each for your specific goals.
- Implant placement: The breast implant can be placed either behind the chest muscle (submuscular) or in front of it (subglandular). Mr Ghosh will carefully create a pocket for the implant, insert it into the pocket, and adjust it to achieve your desired shape and size.
- Closing incisions: After placing the implants, the incisions will be closed with sutures or stitches.
Your recovery journey after breast augmentation surgery
Post-surgery, you’ll spend at least one night in hospital, wearing a breast band and compression bra to minimise swelling and bruising. We’ll also prescribe pain relief medication.
- One week: Most women can return to work within one to two weeks, avoiding strenuous activities that could interfere with healing. We’ll provide aftercare, which involves comprehensive advice and a 24/7 emergency number for your local nursing team.
- Two to three weeks: You can begin light physical activity, excluding chest exercises.
- One month: Normal exercise routines, including chest exercises, can be resumed.
How long do implants last?
Implants typically last ten to twenty years before replacement is needed. We recommend ensuring optimal results by wearing well-fitting bras for support and maintaining a stable weight.
How much does breast augmentation surgery cost?
Breast augmentation costs in the UK vary for every patient. However, as a guide, expect the price to start from £3990. The specific cost for your surgery will be discussed during your consultation with Mr Ghosh.
